I had an awesome time at your festival,
great chatting it up in between screenings
with some very interesting people (Larry Loc
is a walking encyclopedia of animation!!). I'm glad to know a festival that truly cares about artistic development. There's only a handful
of festivals where I'd come back, and AniMazSpot tops the list!! Again, thanks!!
Adrián Garcia, Mexico & Boston

Participating in this festival and being recognized
by top professionals of the animation community
from all over the world was a unique and unforgettable
experience for me. Their reviews of my animated short
were most inspirational and I'm truly grateful for their
constructive critiques. This innovative idea behind
Animazing Spotlight sets it apart from all other festivals.

Pixar presenter, Teddy Newton and some of the AniMazSpot volunteers
My "Chicory" has screened at more than 50 festivals, but yours is different from all those others, because
of your warm and personal touch! I hope you won't lose it when you become the most important
Animation Festival in the World. :-)
Dušan Kastelic, Ljubljana, Slovenia

Production Designer,
Christophe Lautrette, one
of the book’s editors, will be
on hand to shed light, and a bit
of moonshine, on how the idea
for the book came about, answer your questions, and autograph copies of the book.
From 45 talented DreamWorks Studio Art Directors, Character Designers, Production Designers and Visual Development Artists comes the first book of its kind
in which an animation studio showcases the art work that
its artists create for the sake
of creation.
Moonshine features artwork created during the precious little time when these animation artists are not working on upcoming movies, such as Puss in Boots, The Croods, Kung Fu Panda: Megamind, Scared Shrekless; these artists amaze us with their individualistically styled images that they create after dark at DreamWorks Studios.

Help us Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Pixar Animation
The early shorts.... Luxo Jr ...through... Tin Toy and Knick Knack... show the story and technical skills building into what were to be exploited in their feature Toy Story. Geri's Game was their proof that they had learned to put subtle facial acting in a character's face. The later films were chances for novice directors to show their abilities before they were given a feature assignment.
If any of you were present for AniMazSpot 2009, you were able to watch Peter Sohn describe his journey from idea to the final Partly Cloudy, in the form of an imaginary storyboard. Then, last year, at AniMazSpot 2010, we got a glimpse of the real complexities of Teddy Newton’s Day and Night, and audience members clamored to get him to sign their festival souvenir programs.
All this is proof of how essential
the training field of short films
is in building the feature library ( read...Giant cash cow ) the
major studios yearn for.

Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts) is proud to present a video tribute to Academy-Award winning animation legend, Bob Godfrey, who turned 90 years old this July. Starting in 1997, Bob Godfrey visited VanArts every summer as a guest instructor and was part of the founding advisory board for their Animation Department. For the next ten years, Bob taught there
full-time along with intensive summer programs on classical 2D animation.
Born in the UK, Bob Godfrey is one of the world’s most respected animation figures, having animated innumerable award winning shorts and commercials. He has inspired countless animators, such as Richard Williams and Nick Park, and helped many animators break into the business. His films have won several awards including an Oscar in 1975 for his animated film Great, and his success garnered him the Member of the British Empire medal in 1986. He has also shared his animation knowledge with hundreds of eager students at the Royal College of Art and many other schools, including VanArts.
This 45-minute program features exclusive, never-before-seen excerpts from interviews conducted by VanArts staff with Bob Godfrey during his various visits to Vancouver over the years. It gives us a unique and inspiring look into the art and mind of this
amazing animation genius. The interview footage
is intercut with highlights of many of his short films,
including; Great, Do-It-Yourself Cartoon Kit, Henry
9 to 5, Kama Sutra Rides Again, Small Talk,
French Revolution, Dream Doll, and many more!
The program is edited by VanArts' Stop-Motion
Animation Instructor & Communications Director
Ken Priebe, who will be present at AniMazSpot
2011 to introduce and host the screening.
