Two UPA Programs @ CinAnima

The International Animated Film Festival of Espinho, Portugal, better known as CinAnima, is being held from November 10th to 16th, 2008.  It is our pleasure to announce that the directors of CinAnima have invited us to present two UPA Retrospective Programs.  If any of you are going, or you know anyone going, let us know, we’d like to record some interviews for Toon In and/or our UPA documentary, while we’re there in Portugal.  Contact us at bosumedia@yahoo.com, as we are currently experiencing some difficulties with our regular Contact Us email.

If you’ve never been to the CinAnima festival, we hear that it is one of the best.  Among the earliest animation film festivals, they are well known for providing their presenters and the audiences, a pleasant, picturesque, and entertaining environment for seeing a great variety of animation works. The festival has always been held in Espinho, a small seaside resort town, a few miles south of Oporto (Porto), home of Port wine (Vinho do Porto).

They have suggested taking us to see a performance of Portugal’s famous Fado music, which we hope to take them up on, if it doesn’t conflict with our programs, or doing animation interviews. Fado is thought of as the heart of the Portuguese soul. It is arguably the oldest urban folk music in the world. Some say it came as a dance from Africa in the 19th century and was adopted by the poor on the streets of Lisboa (Lisbon). Or perhaps it started at sea as sad, melodic songs, inspired by the rolling waves, written and sung by homesick sailors and fishermen.

Tu és meu vinho, tu és meu pão … Amalia, here we come … right after we vote on November 4th.
